FEZ Solitaire Games
Here is a list of the solitaire games we have so far.
Klondike
Very similar to Klondike solitaire using regular playing cards.
Object of the Game
To make the highest score for played words using all cards.
The Deal
With a single pack, after shuffling, a tableau of seven fanned piles of cards are laid from left to right. From left to right, each pile contains one more card than the last. The first and left-most pile contains a single upturned card, the second pile contains two cards (one downturned, one upturned), the third contains three (two downturned, one upturned), and so on, until the seventh pile which contains seven cards (six downturned, one upturned). The topmost card of each pile is turned face up. The remaining cards form the stock and are held in the hand.
The Play
As per standard solitaire you can vary the dealing, but usually consists of looking at every 3rd card from the stock in your hand.
Words can be made only by using cards from the upturned cards on the tableau and the upturned stock card in your hand. Any words made are removed from the tableau and placed to the side and removed from play to be scored later.
When gaps open on the tableau, i.e. no cards on one of the 7 columns, they can be filled with cards from either the stock when dealing or from upturned cards on the tableau, turning any top cards on each pile face up.
You may only move cards from their position onto other cards in the order that form words. When a word has been formed it is removed for scoring later and any top face down cards are turned face up.
Going Out
Play continues until no more words can be made. Add up the scores of all words and deduct points of unplayed cards.
There are 2 types of finish :-
- clean finish – all cards are used in words
- dirty finish – some cards cannot be made into words
So you have 2 scores to beat, a clean score and a dirty score. It can be difficult to get a clean finish.
Pyramid
Object of the Game
To make the highest score for played words using all pyramid cards.
The Deal
With a single pack, after shuffling, a pyramid of 28 cards are laid face up in 5 rows, starting 1 card in the top row, 3 on row 2, 5, 7 and finally 9 in the bottom row. The remaining cards form the stock and are held in the hand.
The Play
You can only use cards that are on the ends of each pyramid row with a single card from the stock in your hand. Turn over 1 stock card at a time and use it with the edge cards to form words.
Place the words away from the pyramid to be scored at the end. As each card at the edge is used it is then available to be played. You can only use 1 card from stock when forming words in 1 turn.
You do not have to use a stock card if you can form words with just edge cards, however you will use less cards and it may give you a lower total score. There is a balance between high scoring words and using more cards.
Our highest score is 1,231, 1,040 of which came from a 7 letter flush word with 2 stars, ANNEXED. We’re sure somebody will easily beat that score!!
